Install Snow Leopard (OSX86) in your PC -Complete and Failproof method


Snow Leopard 10.6 ->

Is a pure 64 bit OS (64bit libs) the apps made for snow leopard are 64bit apps. Snow leopard can also run 32bit Apps in a separate mode called 32bit mode.Under 32 bit mode the whole OS behaves like a 32 bit OS.

But what is the catch? why does Apple need a Snow leopard?
well Snow leo is not just a 64 bit OS,but it includes an array of pathbreaking technologies like Open CL,Quick Time H.264 hardware acceleration support etc.
So enjoy the Snow Leopard !!






Things to do-



1.Backup important files,atleast form the My documents, Home & so(Just 
in case).

2.Get the Snow Leopard retail disc, buy it from Apple

(Nice, if you use the link below  to get to it !!)









3. If you are running windows,

a. Download PCWizard ,run it & note down the names of the following 
devices in a paper,

CPU (eg:PentiumD or Core2duo), 

AUDIO (eg:Sigmatel9220),
NETWORK (eg:BCM 440x), 

DISPLAY (eg:Nvidia 8600GT)
and 
any other devices you think is necessasy ;)


b. Make a primary partition for about 20 Gb, If this is the first 
partition (recommended) its better.Do not worry about loosing your 
current Operating System,you can install it in
another partition and 
you can multiple boot it, yes Iam gonna tell you how
to do that also !!.

If you are running Linux, remember you are cool ;) ,

a. Collect the hardware details as above,there are many methods 
available in internet, so start searching again.

b. use fdisk to make the partition as above.

4. Go to your BIOS,see your motherboard manual on how to do so
 It's mostly F2 or Delete key.


Disable the following technologies if you have it,

a. Speed Step or EIST (Enhanced Intel Speed Step),AMD (cool n quiet) .

b. Virtualization.

c. HPET (High precision event timer).

d. Dynamic Acceleration.
e. Set boot from DVD first option in BIOS.

Things needed :

1. Retail Snow Leopard disc.
2. External HDD/ Flash drive (> 7.5 Gb) (or) Dual layer DVD.
3.Leopard Install to create Patched Install DVD (If you can do that in your friend's place,then no problem)
4. Download Snow Leopard files (Note: all kexts are 32/64bit !!) from Downloads.




STEP BY STEP VIDEO TUTORIAL (HD):





Let's start our installation now,

1. Disc Utility -> Format the Snow Leopard target partition and external HDD/Flash drive as macOSX journaled partition.

2.Restore the Retail disc image to the external HDD/Flash drive.

3. To install in Non-GUID partition edit the OSInstall.mpkg
(remove the code under the tag as shown in the video),save the file when saved in video.

4.Inside the /External HDD/Extra/Extensions delete the kexts and com.apple.boot.plist, replace it with one inside Snow leo-important kexts folder and com.apple.boot.plist from Snow leopard files folder. 

5.Delete IOATAfamily.kext from /External HDD/System/Library/Extensions/

6.Click snow-installer from the Snow leopard files,follow the instructions and make the external HDD bootable.

TO INSTALL WITH LEOPARD : (Check here to install Leopard)

7.Go to /External HDD/System/Installation/Packages Click OSIntsall.mpkg

8.Select the Target partition,under customize select only essential system software and any printer driver specific to you. Note: selecting all packages may result in error.

9.Install the Snow Leopard to target partition.

10. Copy the dsdt.aml from /External HDD/Extra to the target partition.

11.Install chameleon 2RC3 from Snow leopard files to the target partition.

12.Delete IOATAFamily.kext from /Target partition/System/Library/Extensions.

13.Copy the kexts from snow leo-important kexts/ to
/Target partition/System/Library/Extensions

14.Delete com.apple.boot.plist from /Library/Preferences/System configuration/

15.Copy the com.apple.boot.plist from the snow leo
pard files to /Library/Preferences/System configuration/.

16.set the permissions-open terminal type,

cd /Snow Leopard partition (type ur partition here)/System/Library/Extensions/
chmod -R 755 *
chown -R root:wheel *

17. Restart, boot with -v -f .


For AMD and intel Pentium 4/D/M/ATOM Processors
a. Follow Step 1-16.
b. Download legacy kernel 10.6.8 here.
c. Install the kernel to the Snow leopard partition.
d. Restart, boot with -v -f 
e. To upgrade - Install the update, make sure you install the legacy kernel again to the root drive before restart.

Note : Once inside snowleopard, use kext utility provided in the downloaded package, to install kexts to /System/library/extensions.

18.Click VoodooHDA.prefPane from downloaded
Snow leopard files/Snow leo-important kexts



Updated :


UPGRADE TO SNOW LEOPARD 10.6.8 :

19.Download Apple 10.6.8 combo update and install,search in the google box above.

TO INSTALL WITHOUT LEOPARD :

UPDATE : Now you can install using Retail DVD without Leopard using Hackintosh-India Bootcd, follow the Guide here. 

20.Follow step no 1-6 on a friend's PC (one who is having Leopard).

21.Copy the External HDD image to a bootable DL-DVD.

22.Boot the DVD.

23.Open terminal-Go into the snow-installer folder-run installnow.

24.Follow the instruction,install the files to the target partition.

25.Quit the terminal,Install Snow leopard to the target partition.

26.Restart. Follow the steps from 13-19.
